Wheelchair user actively participating in community life

Occupational Therapy • Wheelchair & Postural Assessment

Your seating should fit your body. Your wheelchair should fit your life.

Intracare helps people find comfortable, supportive and appropriate seating for home and community use - including manual wheelchairs, powered wheelchairs and alternative seating systems. Assessment begins with your goals, environment, posture and functional needs, not with a particular piece of equipment.

Our approach

It starts with you - not the wheelchair.

Intracare uses person-centred and evidence-based wheelchair scripting to support posture, pressure care, comfort and functional capacity. Your goals shape the prescription.

You

Where do you want to go?

What do you want to be able to do?

How does your body need to be supported?

What do you want your wheelchair to look and feel like?

Your goals shape the prescription.

Postural assessment

Good seating starts with understanding the body.

Before recommending any wheelchair or seating option, the OT completes a postural assessment and takes measurements to understand how your body needs to be supported. This considers comfort, postural support, pressure care and functional movement.

Seating systems

More than a wheelchair.

Wheelchair prescription involves an integrated seating system - not simply selecting a chair. Each component works together to support posture, pressure care, comfort, function and mobility.

Why posture matters

Support where it's needed. Movement where it's wanted.

Postural support is not an end goal in itself. Appropriate seating can help optimise comfort and functional capacity for everyday life.

Mobility solutions

  • Lightweight and ultra-lightweight frames
  • Rigid and folding options

Equipment trials

A wheelchair shouldn't only work in a showroom.

Wheelchair and seating trials can take place in the environments where you will actually use the equipment - including home and community settings, as well as supplier locations. Recommendations reflect real-world use, not only a clinic visit.

Wheelchair trial in a home environment

At home

Trial in your own home environment so the OT can assess real access, circulation and transfer needs.

Wheelchair user in the community

In the community
