Access Technology is all about finding the right way for you to use the devices that matter most, whether that's an AAC device, phone, computer, home controls, switches or even video games. We work alongside you to understand your goals and create solutions that fit your everyday life.

Access technology can include AAC devices for communicating with family, computer and phone adaptations for work or learning, environmental controls for things like the aircon and TV, switch-access systems, and gaming setups for connecting with friends and family. We trial equipment with you, provide training and offer ongoing support so the technology fits naturally into everyday life - creating opportunities, not another barrier.

We assess and implement Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) systems - from low-tech symbol boards to high-tech speech-generating devices. We work with children and adults who have complex communication needs due to conditions such as cerebral palsy, autism, ALS/MND, acquired brain injury or stroke.

Switch access allows people with limited motor control to operate devices, communication aids, powered wheelchairs and more using one or more switches. We assess the best switch type, placement and scanning method for each individual, and provide training for the person and their support network.

We receive the referral and review any relevant reports, equipment information and background details so we can understand the person’s goals and current setup.
Initial assessment
We meet with the participant, family and support team to identify priorities, explore current abilities and access methods, and clarify what the technology needs to make possible.
Equipment trials
We trial suitable equipment, access methods and setups in real-life situations wherever possible. This may involve testing different switches, mounts, devices, software or control options.
Recommendation, funding & sourcing
Once the preferred solution is identified, we prepare required recommendations or reports, support the funding process and coordinate with suppliers to source the equipment.
Handover, training & review
We set up the equipment, complete final adjustments and provide training for the participant, family and support team. We then review how the solution is working and make further changes as needed.
